Former Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan has expressed his concern about the current players selected for the upcoming Black Stars game against Madagascar.

The head coach, Chris Hughton, has announced a 24-man squad for the fifth round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, set to take place on June 18.

Gyan, who holds the record for the highest number of goals scored for Ghana, has voiced his worries about the performance of the players invited for this crucial match. He believes that 60 percent of the current squad are not performing well at their respective clubs.

Despite his concerns, Gyan has called for support for the team ahead of the game. He acknowledges that the team is young and emphasizes that although some players are not in good form, it is important to back them.

Gyan recognizes that playing for the national team is different from club football and hopes that the players can mentally prepare themselves for the challenging match.

The Black Stars will commence their training camp on June 12 before traveling to Madagascar for the game on Sunday, June 18.
