Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has criticized the team’s midfielders for failing to find open strikers when they make good runs.
Following Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Nicaragua in a friendly, Gyan vented his frustrations on Twitter.
Gyan does not specify, but it is widely assumed that he is talking about Inaki Williams, Ghana’s lone striker in that game against Central America.
Williams made a number of great dribbling runs throughout the game, but he was never able to finish them off. This prompted Gyan to make a tweet about it.
Ghana beat Spain 1-0 in their second-to-last exhibition match before the World Cup, thanks to a goal from 19-year-old Abdul Fatawu Issahaku. The previous week, they had lost 3-0 to Brazil.
In their final tune-up before the 20th kicks off the World Cup, Ghana will face Switzerland in the month of November.
