
CAF increases AFCON prize money

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has declared that the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations victors will leave with $5 million in prize cash.
This comes after CAF Executive Committee on Friday made plans to increase the cash prize of the AFCON competition.
The final decision was taken at Friday’s Executive Committee meeting led by President, Dr Patrice Motsepe in Douala, Cameroon.
The increment is in accordance with CAF’s commitment to compensate merit performance and improve the status of the Afcon, and it will take effect in the upcoming AFCON that will start off at Olembe Stadium, Yaoundé on 09 January 2022.
The new Africa Cup of Nations Prize Monies:
Winner: $ 5 million (An increament of $ 500,000)
Runner-up: $ 2.75 million (An increament of USD 250,000)
Semi-Finalists: $ 2.2 million (An increament of $200,000)
Quarter-Finalists: $1.175 million (An increament of $ 175,000)
