Kurt Okraku

On Friday, June 23, 2023, Kurt Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), announced that the Talensi District has been selected as the host for the inaugural GFA Football Academy. This announcement took place during the official opening of the first phase of the FIFA Forward 1.0 Kurt Okraku Winkogo Technical Centre.

During his speech, President Simeon-Okraku expressed his delight in informing the Honorable Minister and the overlord of the Talensi Traditional area that their region would be the primary beneficiary of the GFA Football Academy. He further revealed that the GFA, in collaboration with the Bolgatanga Senior High School (Big Boss), would soon unveil a partnership to establish the first-ever Ghana Football Association Secondary school project, named the FA Football Academy.

President Simeon-Okraku emphasized the integration of education and football within the academy, stating that the initiative would combine both aspects in the same location. He acknowledged the lack of top-tier football infrastructure in the region, highlighting the statistics that indicate only one first-division club and numerous lower-division and juvenile clubs in the Upper East Region.

He stressed the importance of investing in such academies to develop a greater pool of sporting talent that can represent the country at various levels in the football ecosystem. By establishing the GFA Football Academy in the Talensi District, the Ghana Football Association aims to address the shortage of quality football infrastructure in the area while nurturing young talents and providing them with educational opportunities.
