GPL Preview: Wounded Hearts of Oak host struggling WAFA in an epic tie in the capital

Champions Hearts of Oak, will welcome the Academy Boys, WAFA this afternoon at the Ohene Gyan Stadium in what promises to be an epic GPL week 19 tie.

With both teams wrapping up this round, the Rainbow Club will set sight on nothing but a win to boost their chances of making it into the top four whiles WAFA will hope for a better results to jump into the relegation zone.

Hearts of Oak suffered a heartbreak in their last league game having snatched an early lead, only for youngster Osman Amadu to score in the dying embers to earn a point for Legon Cities last week- a game Sulley Muntari provided an assist.

However, they redeemed themselves with a vital and precious 2-1 triumph over bitterest rivals Asante Kotoko to clinch the 2022 President Cup.

They opened the scoring account in the early stages of the second half through Daniel Afriyie Barnieh but got equalised minutes after by substitute Samuel Boateng.

Having climbed off the bench, speedster Patrick Razak sealed the victory with a blistering run and a cool finish to win it for the champions.


Hearts of Oak will miss the service of three players; Ansah Botchway, James Sewornu and Patrick Razak all due to injuries.

However, coach Samuel Boadu once again drops top striker, Kofi Kordzi from his squad just like he did in the President Cup last Friday, with the player stating is because he is also injured.

With WAFA, coach Guillermo Zaragoza has no any major injuries at his disposal.
