HOT NEWS: Former sports Minister reveals the strategies used in Black stars call-ups

Vincent Asamoah, who served under the Mahama organization said there are a great deal of impact in the choices and that will more often than not influence the presentation of the group.

Addressing Nimdeɛ FM in a meeting, Oppong Asamoah uncovered that the public under-20 group during his time in office was utilized as tryout justification for FA authorities who believe their players should get groups out of the country.

“I recollect particularly our U-20 (men’s group) and the other [teams], you in those times we had the board council individuals [of these public teams] who possessed clubs, taking, for instance, Osei Parma who claimed Tema Youth, even Kwasi Nyantakyi [the then FA President] himself likewise claimed Wa All Stars [now Legon Cities FC under new ownership]”, he said.

“So when it’s the ideal opportunity for [player] choice into any of the public groups particularly the lesser ones, who dare you that you can pick players without picking those of these Management Committee Members? I had one experience when we went to is it Cameroon or Senegal, I was sitting in the stands for certain authorities and spotted one player who was playing horrifyingly then I griped with regards to why he was not being subbed off.

“One of them then, at that point, advised me to keep quiet since he was a player of this individual, and they are scouts who come from Europe to pick players so regardless of whether the player isn’t performing we ought to permit him to be in the group since somebody has come to watch him and assuming you take him off, the proprietor may not be able to sell his player”, he proceeded.

“Every one of these interest parties have their inclinations for sending the players to the competitions, the scouts are there to pursue their players, then, at that point, we begin playing with the hearts of Ghanaians, in the mean time you [the normal Ghanaian] believes them should perform well and bring a cup home, then, at that point, certain individuals are utilizing the stage to sell their players. So with that experience, I had at the U-20, I won’t be amazed [that it continues as before as of today],” he said.

Vincent Oppong Asamoah was adding to conversations about approaches to pivoting the fortunes of Ghana football.

As of late the Black Stars of Ghana completed lower part of Group C subsequent to losing to Morocco and Comoros and drawing with Gabon at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON].
