MATCH REPORT: Sulley Muntari’s penalty powers Hearts of Oak to a narrow win over WAFA

The Academy Boys with a blistering kickoff here in search for the opener but their first attempt after just three minutes got them a corner kick which resulted in a wasted one.



Hearts of Oak begun settling well from then and took the game under their control, dictating it pace and pattern.



Sulley Muntari turned nicely to sets up Kojo Obeng Jnr with a super long pass but Kwadwo Bonsu quickly came out to interfere in the counter to rescue the situation.

The homesters nearly opened the scoring account on the 41st minute but goalkeeper Kwadwo Bonsu pulled double stops to deny Obeng Jnr and Isaac Mensah. It ended goalless at half time.



In the second half, the game produced the only thing it was lacking and that was goals.

Hearts of Oak with an explosive start to finally break the deadlock through Kwadwo Obeng Jnr who managed to edge out three defenders in the box to slot into the net on the 46th minute.


WAFA finally got back on level terms after 55 minute from a free kick and was converted neatly by Youngster Derrick Mensah Antwi.

President Cup hero Patrick Razak was introduced into the game on the 61st minute to replace goalscorer Kwadwo Obeng Jnr.



The visitors awarded a free kick again but at a very advantageous position this time. Butkinabé international Saana Faad went for a power but couldn’t trouble goalkeeper Richard Attah.

Patrick Razak made a great run into the box, took on goalkeeper Osei Bonsu who eventually fouled him in the box for a penalty. Up


Sulley Muntari stepped with the ‘Jorginho style’ to make it 2-1. His first goal in the rainbow colours. And that’s how the game ended
