Egypt star Mohamed Salah has set sights on winning the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations trophy to satisfy his thirst of being a winner with the national team.
The closest Salah has come to international glory is, an AFCON runner-up finish in 2017. Since then, Salah has conquered several honours involving the Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool.
But despite winning topmost club honours, Salah has admitted winning a trophy with his national side would be different.
“Of course, I need to win something with the national team,”Salah stated in a press conference.
“It’s my motherland, what I value the most. This trophy for me would be totally different, would be the closest one to my heart.
“We were near before to win this African Cup, we gave it everything but we weren’t lucky to bag it but it’s okay.
“Now we’re here in the new tournament, we have to fight for it, we have to offer everything to win it, and I am confident the players have the same feeling.”
Salah who scored the winning penalty as Egypt defeated Ivory Coast in the last 16 is three wins away from Afcon glory.
Egypt face Morocco on Sunday in the quarter- finals.
