Nana Yaw Amponsah, the Chief Executive of Asante Kotoko, has openly acknowledged that the decision to appoint Seydou Zerbo as the club’s coach was made too hastily. Zerbo joined Kotoko following the unexpected departure of the successful coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, which Amponsah attributed to a misunderstanding.

Unfortunately, Zerbo fell short of the high expectations set for him and was eventually released in March, leaving the club struggling to maintain their championship status. As a result, Kotoko has been unable to recover from their disappointing period under Zerbo, and the season will end without any trophies.

Reflecting on the situation, Amponsah admitted, “We acted too quickly in appointing Seydou Zerbo. I was impressed with his performance when he eliminated Ghana from the CHAN qualifiers.” He also acknowledged that Zerbo initially identified the team’s weaknesses, but the results ultimately led to their parting of ways. Additionally, Amponsah mentioned the personal tragedy that Zerbo faced, noting, “We must also remember that he suffered the loss of his son during this time.”
